HCSF Youth Stroke Club ™️

The HC Youth Stroke Club is dedicated to educating young people about stroke prevention. This program targets ages 9-19 in middle and high schools for presentations, health information, trips, and guest speakers. The HC Youth Stroke Club promotes the knowledge that can help a young person prevent a stroke by making positive lifestyle choices now.

Young people suffer from the same risk factors for stroke as adults, such as hypertension [the leading cause of a stroke], high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, sickle cell anemia, heart disease, and obesity [an indirect risk factor]. And they need to know the warning signs of a stroke as well, such as SUDDEN trouble seeing in one or both eyes; SUDDEN trouble walking, dizziness or loss of balance or coordination; SUDDEN severe headache with no known cause; SUDDEN numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body. Stroke knows no age, race, or socioeconomic. Did you know that stroke runs in the family? So, learn your family history. Ask Mom, Dad, grandparents, aunts, and uncles if they suffer from any illness and which illnesses are present within your family tree.
